KMEA President David Graham
Welcome to our web site. If you are a teacher, parent, or student, we hope you will find the information posted here helpful and informative. Membership in the Kentucky Music Educators Association is open to any public, private, or university level music teacher. Members of KMEA may register the schools at which they teach, including home schools, after which students who attend the school may participate in KMEA-sponsored school activities. Our professional organization is in place to support the teachers AND their students. The web site is full of information that will inform, clarify and support the professional music educator.
KMEA is affiliated with the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), formerly known as Music Educators National Conference (MENC), and which is based in Reston, Virginia. We have links on our web site to resources for music educators in support of their mission, to educate the students of America in music.
I have been a member of KMEA since 1995 and a member of NAfME, formerly MENC, since 1986. I believe in the purpose of this organization, and have participated in KMEA activities through the years. The benefits my students and I have received from participation in these events are immeasurable. From music festivals, honor band, choir, and orchestra events at both the district and state levels, to adjudicated events that provide feedback for both the teacher and student, the Kentucky Music Educators Association strives to attain the highest level of student performance as well as the highest level of TEACHER performance.
Our annual Professional Development Conference includes informative clinic session for teachers to explore new and innovative paths of instruction. Many of those sessions are presented by our own members; successful and skilled music educators who will go the “extra mile” to share that expertise with their peers. Included in the February Conference are “All-State” groups, chosen by audition, and made up of the finest young musicians from across the Commonwealth from elementary school to college and university $1000 loan online . Lead by nationally acclaimed conductors, they present concerts that are of the highest musical quality.
If you are a music teacher and NOT a member of KMEA, I would encourage you to join your statewide professional organization. The opportunities for you and your students are well worth your time and effort. If you are a parent or someone who is simply visiting our site to see what we have to offer, we hope you will find the information helpful.
Our Executive Director, Dr. John Stroube, and Associate Director, Melissa Skaggs, are available to answer any questions you might have about KMEA. We are proud of our office staff, and believe them to be the finest in the family of NAfME state offices around the country.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will visit often!
