Kentucky Junior High Chorus
Rules and Regulations

1.

The coordinator of the KJHC is the 6-12 General Music Chair. The KJHC coordinator will work in collaboration with the KCC coordinator and K-5 chair.

2.

The Kentucky Junior High Choruses consist of a 204-voice mixed choir (KJHMC) and a 204-voiced treble choir (KJHTC) selected from auditioned seventh, eighth, and ninth graders. The KJHMC consists of four equal sections of soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone. The KJHTC consists of three equal sections of soprano1, soprano 2, and alto. Boys with unchanged voices may audition for the soprano and/or alto part.

3.

In order to audition, students must participate in their school's chorus. If a student has a scheduling conflict with choir or if the school does not have a chorus, then the teacher CAN choose to sponsor and work with students. ONLY the music teacher of record can audition students for the KJHC.” (This rule does allow for the teacher of record to collaborate with another teacher. For instance, the middle school teacher could work with the ninth graders at the high school.

4.

A. Students selected for the soprano and alto sections will be those
receiving the highest 153 scores in each section.
B. The soprano and alto sections will each be numbered in score rank
order with the odd numbered students placed in one choir and the

even numbered students in each section placed in the other choir.
C. Students selected for the tenor and baritone sections will be those
receiving the highest 51 scores in each section.
D. All districts that have students auditioning must be included in the
final chorus selection. If any district does not have a student in the
highest ranked scores, the coordinator will add the student with the
highest score in the district to the chorus.
