Girls: 
Black skirts/pants, white blouse, black dress shoes, black hose or tights
Boys: Black dress slacks, white shirt, black dress shoes, black socks (no jackets, sweaters, or vests).
   
Kentucky Children's Chorus Guidelines

A: 

Philosophy: The Kentucky Children's Chorus shall be one of excellence.

1.

All twelve KMEA districts shall be represented in the chorus.  If a district has no auditions that achieve the required score, the top student of that district will automatically be selected to represent that district. If no audition tapes are sent from a district, that district will not be represented.

   
B:  Requirements for Participation
1.
The local school must pay a registration fee to KMEA, which entitles the school to participate in all KMEA activities/events.
2.
The local music teacher must be a current member of KMEA.
3.
The student must audition by tape/CD.
4.

The selected students must be in 5th or 6th grade and receive a total score int he top 205 (more or less) scores in order to participate.

5.
Any student selected to participate must be a well behaved and cooperative person.
6.

The local music teacher must notify the KCC Coordinator if a student will not be able to participate in the KCC.

7.

All fees and registration materials must be received by the deadlines posted.

8.
When accepted for participation, a student fee must be paid. No refunds will be made to those who withdrawal.
9.

The KCC Medical form and permission form is required. This must be submitted prior to school registration the day of the first KCC rehearsal or at the school registration table upon receipt of registration materials.

   
C: 

Audition Tapes/CDs

1.
Auditions will be made at the local level by audiotape or CD and instructions for the tape must be followed precisely. 
2.

A fee of $6.00 must be paid for each audition. The fee should be paid with one school check, along with the registration form, sent directly to the KMEA office.

3.
The registration form and tapes/CDs will be sent directly to the address given for the KCC Coordinator.
4.
Tapes/CDs should NOT be sent via Express Mail or UPS, since the coordinator will not be available to sign for the shipments requiring signatures. The tapes/CDs must be sent to the stated mailing address of the coordinator and NOT to the coordinator's school address.
5.
Tapes/CDs received after 3:30 PM on the day of the deadline WILL NOT BE ASSESSED.
6.

When all tapes/CDs have been heard and assessed, the tapes/CDs will be arranged in order of their scores.  The top 205 (more or less) students will comprise the KCC. The exception to this rule is stated in the Philosophy Section.

7.
Audition results will be posted on the KMEA web site within two weeks of the audition deadline.
 
D:  Adjudicators
1.

The Kentucky Children's Chorus Coordinator is responsible for selecting the audition committee.

2.
Members of the audition committee should be music educators experienced with children's voices and choral activities.
3.

An audition committee member may not judge tapes/CDs of his/her own students.

4.
Members of the audition committee will receive an honorarium.
5.
The KCC Coordinator will receive an honorarium.
 
E: 

Notification of Student Withdrawal

1.

The local teacher must send notification of withdrawal by a student to the KCC Coordinator immediately. No refunds will be made if the student initially accepts a position in the KCC.

 
F:

Selection of the Conductor and KCC Music

1.
The KCC Coordinator will select the conductor.
2.
The conductor will select the KCC music.
3.

The KCC Coordinator, along with the KCC Conductor, will determine which of the concert selections will serve as the audition piece. A selection in a foreign language, appropriate for audition purposes, is preferred.

 
G: 
Responsibilities of Local Choral Teacher
1.
The local teacher must be a current member of KMEA.
2.

After audition tapes/CDs have been made, the choral teacher should select only those auditions of the highest quality to send to the Coordinator for evaluation/assessment.

3.
The local choral teacher shall be responsible for housing forms, registration forms, medical and permission forms, and be aware of deadlines and rules and regulations.
4.
The local teacher is responsible for musically preparing and rehearsing all students selected as members of the KCC.
5.

The local teacher may NOT grant permission to any student to miss any rehearsals during the conference.

6.
The local teacher is responsible for his/her students at all rehearsals.
 
H: 
Responsibilities of Students
1.
To audition, each student must be enrolled in the school's music program.
2.

To participate, each student must audition by audiotape/CD. This is sent, along with the audition form, to the KCC Coordinator by the student's choral teacher.

3.
Each student accepted into the KCC is required to learn his/her music before the KMEA Professional Development Conference.
4.
If a student finds he/she cannot participate after being selected, he/she must notify his/her teacher immediately. NO refunds will be made.
5.

From the time of selection to completion, each student must remain in good academic and citizenship standing in his/her own school.

6.
Each student must cooperate fully with the conductor and all adults during rehearsals. Failure to observe the rules may result in dismissal from the KCC.
7.

Each student is to be in his/her assigned seat for all rehearsals. Each student must attend each rehearsal unless excused by the KCC Coordinator.

8.
Each student MUST meet the dress requirements for performance.
   
I:  Responsibilities of the Parent/Guardian
1.

The parent is responsible for the KCC audition fee, registration fee and housing for student and parent/guardian. 

2.

One parent/guardian must accompany each student to the KCC Conference and will be responsible for the student at all times except during rehearsals. This includes meal times.

   
J:  Kentucky Children's Chorus Coordinator Selection
1.

The KCC Coordinator will be the outgoing K – 5 General Music Chair. The KCC Coordinator will serve for two years.

2.
The KCC Coordinator will work in collaboration with the General Music K – 5 Chair, the General Music 6 – 12 Chair, and the Kentucky Junior High Chorus Coordinator.
3.

If, for any reason, the KCC Coordinator cannot fulfill the additional 2 year KCC duties, then she/he and the current General Music K – 5 Chair, will select and appoint a qualified KMEA member to serve as the KCC Coordinator.  The selected coordinator MUST be a music educator experienced in quality children's choral literature and performance at the 5 – 6 grade level.
