General District News:

  • Missie Culp- Choir Director at Garrard County High School took 1st place women’s choir at Pigeon Forge, TN music festival.
  • Ben Walker- Band Director in Estill County took 1st place in their class at competition in Sandusky, OH. with the 7th/8th grade band.  The band also took Grand Champion of the Middle School Band Caption.
  • The first annual All Madison County Middle School band was a huge success under the direction of Ms. Lois Wiggins
  • The All-District 11 Middle School Band will be held March 2nd and 3rd at Danville High School.  The band will be conducted by Perry Ralenkotter.
  • Evan Smith- Band Director at Berea Independent received a $5000 grant from GEAR-UP along with matching funds from the school district to purchase instruments for the beginning band program.  These instruments will be used by students who have financial difficulty obtaining an instrument, but show great potential to excel.
  • Kerry Evans- Band Director at Madison Middle School in Richmond placed 2nd with the 7th and 8th grade band at Dollywood Music in the Parks Festival.
  • The Madison Central Symphonic Band received straight 1 ratings at the KMEA State Concert Band Assessment

Presenting at the 2012 KMEA In-Service Conference

  • Missie Culp will be presenting on new activities to be presented in the Arts and Humanities high school classroom.  She is requesting colleagues to submit "requests" of needs for activities.  For example, you have a need for a Powerpoint on Shakespeare.  It will be very extensive, useful, therefore, in part as well as in whole. Please encourage anyone you know to send her requests as she uses the year to create these new activities.
  • District teachers Kim Evans and Abby Fowler will present a clinic titled “Making elementary music fun” They will be presenting along with three other out of district teachers.
